Lady Luck Recap

Our Dimepiece one year anniversary party went off last week in sin city, Las Vegas. Apparel market week was insane, but we finally had a chance to meet with the lovely ladies at Missbehave magazine (Rose's sweet east coast swagger). We snacked on pink frosted cupcakes and took advantage of the free champagne. Everyone enjoyed the DimeBags and free makeovers by Sephora. It was an amazing night. Take a peek at all the debauchery that went down! P.S. sexy ass Mos Def rolled by too..Oui.

Top Model Cycle 11...Transgender!

This is so cool! The 1st top model contestant in the shows history to be a Transgender. This story is getting amazing media play and praise from GLAAD. All I have to say is the other contestants are wack! These girls are straight up discriminating her! It made me pretty sick, it was like 5th grade bully hurtful type shit!  Hello, your Mic'd you on camera fools!  Yall just look crazy talking all that smack!  Isis was born male and has not completely undergone the transformation to the femme fatale that she is but she feels she was a women right from jump. She was honest about it and if she feels comfortable in her own skin, thats says more than most insecure chicks! US Weekly Editor-at-Large, said some pretty nasty things about her, because he looks like he eats "fruit cakes" a few times a week, atleast. So liking the same sex is ok but its not ok to want to actually be the opposite sex? I think this diva ISIS is definitely going to pave the way for something special!!! Isis do the damn thang!

Converse Casting for Print( Get Your 15 Minutes On )

Sorry Rose Boo...this is going to be a long post, but I figured the boys and girls may want to read this one We all just wanna be famous, right?...

CONVERSE is gearing up for a small print campaign , and it calls for some unique headshots of interesting looking folks। Instead of using faux cool kid models from a traditional casting agency, we [Converse]wanted to highlight some of our interesting and diverse friends and fam।

Now, this isn't a big time photo shoot or anything. We're [Converse Is]doing several spreads – a classic black and white layout with a headshot on one page, which will be slightly obscured by a cool design element. The headshot will be an added "design element" to our final layouts. We'll end up with about 20 portraits that will be chosen for the print campaign. Our homey Taku (takustudio.com) will be shooting the final portraits in NYC over the next week or so.

If you, some of your interns, or any of your friends have a dope look and fit the descriptions below that coincide with our featured product stories, then hit us up ASAP. If you or any of your friends have a digital headshot at the ready, then shoot them over to us to review, too.

PRODUCT STORIES
The Chuck: It is the badge of independence. The Optimistic Rebel. Music feels right for this but not in a way any other brand could do it. It's about that emerging artist who spent late nights writing songs in this shoe. It's about that creativity, not the obvious concert-going hipster cool. They're not a music critic. They make great music happen.

Purcell: The Hamptons. Country clubs. Polo. Badminton. Ferris Bueller. More edge. Rich, privileged kid, but he just may revel and drive his car into a pool. He knows he can fuck around up to a point then he'll use his dad's connections to get a sweet paying job. Half his life is spent subverting the pretentious system he was brought up in. he does it to piss them off. But he knows he's good down the road. It's a bit Chevy Chase in Caddyshack.

One Star: Chill. Suede. It made its debut in basketball. Back in the 70s. ABA. Lots of colors. After Hoops it became a skate shoe. Then it went away for a while and came back during grunge in the early 90s. It's one step beyond the Chuck. The Chuck is mass. The One star is understated. Therefore it is a bigger badge of independence. Considered by many to be the coolest Converse shoe. But that many is a select few. Cobain wore them instead of the Chuck. Enough said. (Try to ignore the Target distribution in the US. It's much cooler in the rest of the world than it is here in the US.)

Running: Run like hell. This is kids running from the law. He/She's a bit of a knucklehead. Imagine Ewan McGregor in the opening scene of Trainspotting running his ass off, with the biggest shit-eating grin.

Pro Leather (Basketball): Soul. Classic. Dr. J. The 70's. This is about when the game was a good time. Back when pros played ball in the summer in what was called t-shirt leagues on concrete.

Skate: NYC or Sao Paulo streets. Attitude. Swagger. die-hard skateboarder. Not famous. Not even sponsored. Just grinding in and out of traffic, causing a ruckus, just for the fuck of it.

Talent Payment (We never said we'll make you rich)
- $100 to take initial headshot - $500, if used in our final print campaign

Straight People Pride?

Get ready for a Rant

As a friend to the Gay Community, this made me Angry.

Ok, good for promoting famlay etc, but as far as I can remember Straight People never had to overcome adversity to have equal rights based on their sexuality. So when I saw there was a Straight Pride Parade, I gagged, I'm ashamed, to me this is the equivalent  of a White Power Parade- I'm sure plenty of you would say WTF or be pretty pissed about it. Someone would have an uproar.
Now not only is it ridiculous, it's being held in BKlyn, a day before the West Indian Parade. Because unfortuntaley we know that 90% of the Reggea, Soca, and Calypso songs out there are always Gay bashing, even though Most of the Homosexual men and women I know are of Carribean Descent....
This is ridiculous, if you read this blog, don't go, if you're a dude and think this is the movement, you're wack, if you're a girl, clearly you must be some bible hankering crazy girl, and I don't want you to be my friend. This is only promoting ignorance and hate, their intentions is to humilitate or make Gay & Lesbian West Indians feel uncomfortable.
Don't support this bullshit.
"Girls"- I'm on your side

Hellz-Bellz interview w/ Karmaloop

If you think she is the most cutest person in the world here you have to see her new fierce look!  Big Ups Lawn!  Keep up the sick work!  Ok Bam you too!

Cubannie Links up to no good in Vegas!

Vegas was pretty Dope this year! Especially all the damn free drink tickets I got! LOL! Here is a brief breakdown of my trip, well kinda brief!

Day 1: My luggage was trashed at the airport! Walked the Ceasars mall with a Mai-Tai with Coffey and Smiley of XXL Mag!
Day 2: Magic / Slate show! Met up with Karmaloop folks Jesse, Redd and Gio! Went to the Simmons sisters Pastry booth. Angela actually spotted my jewelry and said it looks like something she has worn before! Well she did! V&A's next Pasty campaign set to hit a Time Square Billboard near you, will be in some Cubannie Links jewels. I got a sneak peak of the images and OMG! I then saw Mariel Haenn, stylist extrodinaire, her resume includes...Rihanna and now full-time Jada & Will Smith. And my fave Kim Snow marketing diva for Pastry. Then dinner at Strip house at the Planet hollywood hosted by my friends Lisa & Coltrane of Epiphany Media and somehow was apart of T.I. documentary for MTV! I am player #153...LOL! Yes he was in Vegas! How did he pull that one! There were magazine editors and stylist from Vibe Mag, Complex, Giant, LTD! My business cards dream! LOL! Then headed to The Moon at the Palms where I got to see E.P.M.D. perform! This is the one and only moment I got a chance to see Rose! Rose I love you! You look gorgeous by the way!
Day 3: Headed back to Magic/S.L.A.T.E. were I had a little impromtu interview with adorable Relz & Chef of Randumb Miami. So excited for these cool chicks who could totally be my little sisters! Got a change to see the Miss Crew, crew...precious! Drinks pretty much all day then ended the night at the Mix up at theHotel where I saw Lanie and Bam of Hellz-Bellz! OMG you gotta check out her new fierce do!
Vegas Tip: Don't walk the Bellagio alone in a mini skirt! You could be easily mistaken for a hooker, no matter how classy you think you look! Somehow the Bellagio Casino can do that to you! And if you lean up close enough to the crap table almost as if you are gambling, the waitresses thinks your spending money and you get free drinks! This tip does not work, I repeat does not work if you are at the slot machines!

A memorable night in Brooklyn...

Almost teared up when I took a late walk to the sushi spot on Dekalb (Fort Greene) for a late dinner since I am still kinda on Vegas time!  From almost a block away, I heard a speech from a distance, very Martin Luther King type of feeling!  I walked past Madiba, a pretty well known South African restaurant in my neighborhood, and there on the TV, Obamas acceptance speech.  It was like everyone watching, just new that one day they can say they were there, they lived it!  I walked passed the park and some people sitting at the benches had it on the radio!  Gave me goose bumps!  How classic and 1940's of us!  I just know we are all apart of something special!

Greedy Genius!!!

I had a chance to meet up with my new friends Digit and Mik owners of Greedy Genius, at S.L.A.T.E / Magic in Vegas! If they made a dollar for every person who said they are the cutest couple, they'd be caz-illionaires. Hmm they might be anyway because this footwear collection, is available almost everywhere...LOL!  Check out their shop list for a shop near you!  They've been on the scene for almost 2 years and their femme collection will be dropping this Fall!  Yay!  Exciting!  Go check em!  They are currently on the debut cover of Persona Magazine!

Afrobeta 2nite! Circa 28 Miami!

Afrobeta has had an amazing year! If you're in Miami go to their show! If your not, watch the video and live vicariously! Click here to watch their new video "Night Time".

The Lakeview Terrace: Is this for Real?

This right hurr, has possibly got to be the worst movie premise I can think of in awhile. I just saw the trailer and kept asking myself if it was some sick joke. Listening to Samuel Jackson Wild out on the white dude makes me thnk of the old Dave Chapelle skit
Remember.........

Vegas in a nutshell

Swaggerjacked from Complex and The ArabParrot, respectively

I've been in Vegas for the past few days, just landed last night, been extra exhausted! If you were there, you saw this Gross bitch in front by the Urban Brands area, me and Marley nearly gagged when we realized that her vajayjay was pretty visible.Homegirl on the Right just pretty much sums up everyone else who was there to look "cool" and not for work. Personally I'm not a fan of Vegas, the last time I went SureShot had a gig at this club in the MGM and I didn't sleep for 36 hours thanks to lots of redbulls, vodka and amateur gambling. but thankfully hanging with Samantha and Marley completely made for a more fun and very productive trip!!! It was hustle, hustle play, sleep everyday.
Some pics coming from Marley soon, for now just See Samantha's short description of the happenings and entertain yourself with the pic on the right from the Arab Parrot (I saw him at Project, another tradeshow and kinda thought he was cute).
I'm back :D

A CRACKHEAD TRAGEDY-DAMN JODECI, WHY??

WHUT happened to my childhood?,K-Ci was always kind of busted, but whoa mr. Dalvin!
I've been dreaming about seeing Jodeci live in concert ever since i was a little girl (I was too young to go to the Jodeci concerts back when they were actually hot) and this crack-tacity is what I can expect?? Aw man! See Mary J? Aren't you glad you got out while you still could?.I don't know what hurt me more, K-ci's STILL exposed bird chest, Jojo's-cartoon-like collapse, or the stuff the camera girl was saying...WHY did K-Ci keep SINGING???
It's 3 minutes long, but I know all you hard working people have some time on your hands to watch a crackhead fall out. Lmao!

thanks for the email Tisha
